Tonights LA Film Festival

I totally wish that I wasn’t going to work a party bus tonight, because Planet of the Apes is playing at the LA Film Festival for FREE tonight. It will be playing outside on a large projection and screen on Broxton Ave.

Okay, if you have never seen the original movie than I suggest you go here and purchase the master piece starring legendary, late Charlton Heston (1923–2008).

How to pay tribute to Charlton Heston, whose career strode from the biblical past of The Ten Commandments to the nightmare future of Soylent Green? In many ways the role as a stranded astronaut in Planet of the Apes was the perfect one for Heston, in that it played off both the steel-jawed authority that he radiated with ease, as well as the tormented sensitivity that often lurked untapped underneath.

It can be difficult to recall the original Apes movie from underneath the sequels, remakes, and TV adaptations, but watched with fresh eyes, it is a head-spinning parable on society-building and prejudice, built around the concept of astronauts who somehow land on a planet where apes rule and men are considered lowly beasts. A cracking sci-fi action pic that has become a cultural touchstone—and still boasts one of the best movie endings ever—Planet of the Apes lives on.
